Last month at the Tattered Cover Book Store in Denver, Colorado, a crowd of over 100 were treated to an evening with Burg Simpson attorney and author, Mike Burg. Speaking about his new book, Trial By Fire: One Man’s Battle to End Corporate Greed and Save Lives, Mike discussed his childhood and his motivations that led him on his adventure to begin acting, modeling, and stand-up comedy, all on his way to becoming one of the greatest trial lawyers in America. He also talked about his unique encounters with famous and powerful figures in the entertainment, sports, and political world. The Tattered Cover audience was made up of clients, friends, colleagues, and family, as well as many from the general public who were interested in hearing Mike speak and buying his book. All those in attendance recognized Mike’s passion for the law and his passion for fighting for his clients as one of the top trial lawyers in America.
The question-and-answer session before the book signing exemplified Mike’s ability to connect with his audience, to draw them in, and to share his continued dedication to the judicial system. As readers had their books signed, they were able to continue to chat with Mike on a variety of topics, including some who had their own legal questions and issues.
Sherry Richardson, a court reporter who was at the Tattered Cover for the signing, thoroughly enjoyed the book and Mike’s discussion. “He was entertaining and honest about his struggle to break into the Denver law community.” When recalling the Q & A session, it was Mike’s answer to an audience question about taking on a bully that stuck with Sherry. Mike relayed how he had gotten into a fight with a bully and even though he lost the fight, he knew that he had to stand up to the bully because that was the only way to stop the bullying. “Mike said he needed to stand up for what he believed in,” Sherry said. Sherry, who has known and worked with Mike for many years, including on several of the cases mentioned in Trial By Fire, knew that was true. “I can tell you Mike has always been committed to fighting for the rights of his clients.”
A former district court judge also attended the signing and said, “No one would ever question Mike’s passion and commitment to justice for the un/under represented. Thank you for what you and your firm do for those in need.”
Mike also enjoyed the evening. “I was honored and humbled to spend time with the community, sharing my story at the Tattered Cover — a Denver institution where so many great authors have come to talk about and share their books, and their stories,” Mike said. “While I’m thrilled about the reception at the signing and the success of the book, my passion will always remain: Living a meaningful life by fighting for the little guy and being the best trial lawyer I can be.”
