Summit County, CO (June 15, 2020) – One person passed away following a boating accident on Saturday afternoon, according to reports. At approximately 2:30 p.m., on June 13, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of a boating accident on the Dillon Reservoir.

Reports show that several boats were on the reservoir in attendance of the Dillon Yacht Club’s Peak One Regatta when extreme winds swept across the water. Several boats capsized due to a severe storm bringing in 40-MPH winds and 4-foot waves. One of the boats involved in the regatta collided with a race committee, causing it to turn over and eject the captain.

The Sheriff’s Office began a land and water search immediately with the assistance of the Summit County Water Rescue Team, Dillon Yacht Club boats, fishing guides, the Summit County Rescue Group, Dillon Police Department, Dillon and Frisco Marinas, Summit Water Taxi, and Flight for Life. At 3:30 p.m., on June 14, the body of the 68-year-old man was discovered in 180-feet of water. Around 5 p.m., he was recovered and declared deceased. At this time, the incident remains under investigation.

We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of the man who lost his life in this accident.
