Shareholder Jacob Burg Discusses Burg Simpson’s Commitment to Pro Bono Work
“Since the firm’s inception in 1976, Burg Simpson has been committed to providing pro bono legal services to heroes who have dedicated themselves to serving others in times of great need. As an attorney with Burg Simpson, I was proud to represent a husband and wife who risked their lives and volunteered to assist first responders near Ground Zero in the wake of the September 11th terrorist attacks.
Sadly, in 2013, doctors confirmed my client had contacted Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis because of his service at Ground Zero. One of his family members recommended Burg Simpson and he and his wife contacted our Firm in 2014. We took their case on a pro bono basis and submitted a claim for compensation with the 9/11 Victim’s Compensation Fund on his behalf. Sadly, in 2017, our client passed away, and this required that we file a new claim and begin the process again with the VCF with his wife serving as a personal representative for his estate. Despite these obstacles, our team at Burg Simpson never gave up. It was an honor to work on this case and obtain much-deserved compensation for our heroic clients.
At Burg Simpson “Good Lawyers, Changing Lives” is not just a motto it is who we are. The greatest privilege I can be afforded as a lawyer is to have the opportunity to help people who have so selflessly dedicated their lives to helping all of us.”
