Nick Fogel is Proud to Support the Denver Police Officers’ Foundation
Burg Simpson shareholder Nick Fogel is currently on the board of the Denver Police Officers’ Foundation (DPOF). The DPOF was created in 1999 to assist officers and their families in their time of greatest need. Last week, Nick and the firm were proud to support the foundation’s annual lunch as a Gold Sponsor.
Over the years, the Denver Police Officers Foundation has helped more than 1,000 officers and provides emotional support and financial assistance to Denver police officers and their immediate family members during medical emergencies and long-term illnesses. At the event, Denver police officers who were critically injured in the line of duty over the past year-and-a-half were honored for their bravery and for their service.
DPOF President Ken Chavez spoke at the event and said,
“Our officers in the Denver Police Department did an incredible job these last 18 months. It was the most difficult year I can think of in our city’s history. There was a pandemic, there was civil unrest and protests, and there were unprecedented levels of crime that came up. So all three factors impacted these officers a lot. They still had to endure that and work through that.”
Nick Fogel is the practice group leader of Burg Simpson’s workers’ compensation division. Under Nick’s leadership, the department has achieved Tier 1 status by US News and World Report (the highest-ranking available). In this capacity, Nick has extensive courtroom experience handling a wide variety of matters.
A significant part of Nick’s current practice is dedicating to providing legal services to those in Colorado’s law enforcement community. In addition, he also represents other first responders including firefighters, paramedics, and emergency medical professionals. Nick has many years of experience representing individuals who are injured on the job and in the line of duty and feels fortunate to be able to offer legal assistance to these brave men and women when they need it most.
Since 2012, Nick has been selected as a Colorado Super Lawyer Rising Star, a distinction limited to only the top 2.5 percent of qualifying lawyers in the state. Nick has also been selected as one of the Best Lawyers in America and as a Top Colorado Attorney by 5280 Magazine. Nick is rated AV-Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell. Only an elite group of approximately 10 percent of all attorneys holds an AV Preeminent Rating.
In addition to his work as a board member with the DPOF, Nick is also proud to be a founding board member of the Jeremy Bitner Fallen Officer Fund. The Fund was created in honor of Detective Jeremy Bitner, who was killed by a drunk driver while in the line of duty. The fund provides assistance to the families of officers that have been killed in the line of duty. Nick is also a board member of the Denver Firefighter’s Foundation, whose mission is to improve firefighter safety and quality of life.
