Michael Burg weighs in on the battle against “Big Vape”.
Burg Simpson founder Mike Burg recently wrote an op-ed for Bloomberg Law about corporate social responsibility and the ongoing vaping crisis. He said,
“Companies who ignore their corporate social responsibility by manufacturing, marketing, and distributing vaping devices are likely to face lawsuits for promoting dangerous and addictive products to children.”
Michael Burg believes that companies should seek to embrace ethical responsibility, but until then, enforceable legislation should be passed to hold them accountable for their actions on society and the environment. While the government must regulate business responsibilities, it is also essential that we, as a society, demand that corporations prioritize their social obligations.
“We are experiencing a time of growing public concern for human rights and the environment, and we all must take ownership of our social responsibilities. We have to become aware of the long term effects of what we do as individuals, as corporations, and countries, and be mindful of the impact we make on society and the planet. The practice of social responsibility must become integrated within each of us if it is to become an integrated part of our culture.”
