Burg Simpson Volunteers Judge Mock Trial Tournament

The attorneys and professional staff at Burg Simpson volunteered at the annual Colorado State High School Mock Trial Tournament held on February 22nd and 23rd.

David P. Hersh, Burg Simpson Shareholder and Past President of the Arapahoe County Bar Association, donned his black robe to fill in as a presiding judge. Hersh said:

Participating in High School Mock Trials provides students with the opportunity to refine and polish their analytical and advocacy skills.  I have found that volunteers who score and judge the rounds are consistently impressed with the high level of skill and preparation shown by the participants.  I know that for the many years I have volunteered to help with Mock Trial, I have received far more joy and delight from that endeavor than I ever thought possible.  It is truly an honor to interact with these students, their coaches, and their parents/families/friends in this worth-while extra-curricular competition.”

Sponsored by the Arapahoe County Bar Association (ACBA), the Arapahoe County Regional has produced some of the top finishing teams at the State Competition. The tournament begins each February with regional competitions, and the ACBA recruits volunteers to help to judge, score, and monitor the event. Attorneys, legal professionals, judges, teachers, and other community leaders volunteer their time to instruct students about the judicial system and the trial process through this invaluable educational program.

“This is an amazing event that the Arapahoe County Bar Association sponsors each year for our youth. The experience gained by these students in public speaking and working as a team to develop persuasive arguments will be invaluable to them. I am always impressed at how professional these students are.”   Brian Matisse, Burg Simpson Shareholder and Chairman of the CLE Committee for the Arapahoe County Bar Association.

Volunteers from Burg Simpson included:

The Arapahoe County Bar Association is a non-profit, organization for legal professionals that is dedicated to serving over 1,000 members in the Denver Metro area.

Burg Simpson would like to thank Kim Bockenstedt, the ACBA Executive Director, for organizing this impressive program!
