Our client, Miranda Spencer, (who was fentanyl-drugged and assaulted from a Bumble date) received the Survivor Activist of the Year award from the CCASA (Colorado Coalition Against Sexual Assault). She showed up to testify at a joint meeting of the state legislature’s judiciary committees to talk about the rape kit backlog and what that has done to her as a sex assault survivor. Her testimony was later discussed in a Department of Public Safety oversight hearing.

While not on the calendar and not in the government’s prepared briefing, Miranda’s one voice that day made an impact. She drew attention to the 500+ day backlog impacting over 1,400 survivors. She got the attention of the press and lawmakers and was able to change the state budget to help fund the backlog.

She also inspired a bill now named the Miranda Gordon Justice for Survivors Act of 2025. This bill was signed into law by Gov. Jared Polis on June 3, 2025.
