Following a report of two carbon monoxide poison injuries, Lochinvar, LLC issued a recall of several products. Specifically, Lochinvar recalled its residential condensing boilers, combi boilers, and package systems sold after August 2016. A condensing boiler is a type of high-efficiency boiler used to heat homes and other buildings. A combi boiler is a machine that functions both as a boiler and a water heater. Lochinvar’s package systems are custom, pre-piped boiler systems. The recalled products were sold under the brand names of Lochinvar, A. O. Smith, and State Poline and have serial numbers within the range of 103475818 through 115078306. For a list of the recalled model numbers, click here. The serial number and model number can be found on the data plate, which is located either on the outer jacket of the unit, or on the underside of the removable front jacket plate.

According to the recall, the boilers’ flue grommet can deteriorate and dislodge during use, which can cause a carbon monoxide leak. Carbon monoxide is an odorless gas that can poison people or animals who breathe it. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, carbon monoxide poisoning can cause flu like symptoms and, in large doses, can be fatal.

Lochinvar, LLC reports that about 34,300 units are affected by the recall, and advises consumers with a recalled unit to immediately contact the installer or qualified technician for a free repair. Until the repair is made, Lochinvar advises consumers to have working carbon monoxide alarms outside of sleeping areas and on every level of the home.
