DePuy has recalled over 50,000 elbow joint replacement devices known as the “DePuy Synthes Radial Head Prosthesis System.” The Radial Head Prosthesis is a medical device used to replace the head of the radial bone if it is fractured or broken. The radial bone is one of the long bones of the arm, with the head of the radial bone ending at the elbow joint.
DePuy recalled its Radial Head device after receiving reports of loosening after surgery, which may result in bone loss, fractures, soft tissue damage, pain, and the need for revision surgery. In fact, according to a 2017 article published in the Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma, DePuy’s Synthes radial head device loosened far more often than another manufacturer’s radial head device.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, as the current population ages, surgeries involving the bones in the elbow are more common than ever. For older individuals, even simple falls can result in fractures. Considering DePuy’s recall of the Synthes Radial Head Prosthesis System, it matters which elbow replacement surgeons choose.
Following DePuy’s recall, numerous patients suffering injuries from failed radial head replacement devices have contacted Burg Simpson. Our experienced product liability attorneys have filed lawsuits on behalf of such individuals. They can help you too.
