Burg Simpson Investigates DirecTv for Deceptive Sales Practices

Attention current and former DirecTV subscribers in Ohio and Kentucky! Burg Simpson is investigating DirecTV for luring customers into two-year contracts with the promise of low monthly rates that disappear when the first bill arrives.

DirecTV is no stranger to lawsuits concerning deceptive pricing schemes. In 2015, the Federal Trade Commission filed a lawsuit against DirecTV for misleading consumers with advertisements for discounted 12 month pricing that failed to clearly disclose that a two-year contract was required to get that pricing and that the pricing during the second year would be substantially higher. To make matters worse, once consumers were sucked into such contracts, they could not leave without facing stiff cancellation fees of up to $480.

Despite the FTC’s lawsuit, Burg Simpson has received reports that DirecTV continues to engage in similar deceptive advertising, whereby DirecTV offers a quote over the phone and then fails to honor it once the consumer is locked into their contract. If you live in Ohio or Kentucky and have been the victim of DirecTV’s deceptive sales practices call Burg Simpson today at 513-852-5600.
