Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Help

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Help

How long will it take to get back to normal?

Each case is unique. Doctors still know very little about the brain and even specialists cannot accurately predict recovery time. Some TBI victims fully recover in a matter of weeks or months, while others may suffer life-long disability. Even more confusing is the fact that the harm or recovery time depends largely on the area of the brain which was affected—and does not necessarily correspond with the magnitude of initial trauma.

I was told that my brain injury was mild, but I am having serious problems and I need help. What is happening?

Severity definitions in TBI can be misleading. The area of the brain that was injured will often influence the severity of the problems you experience more than the initial magnitude of trauma. A “mild” brain injury can be very debilitating in the long term, even though its onset is defined differently than a “moderate” or “severe” TBI.

For traumatic brain injury (TBI) help, you should continue to seek medical attention if you are experiencing symptoms associated with traumatic brain injury. Also, if you believe you may have a compensable brain injury case, please call our lawyers at 1-888-895-2080 to discuss your situation.

Since my brain injury, I do not have trouble concentrating, but have severe mood swings. Is this caused by my injury?

It could be. It is not uncommon for TBI to cause mood swings, behavioral changes and personality changes—even if other symptoms are not, or do not seem to be, present. Again, this depends largely on the area of the brain that was injured.

What is Post Concussion Syndrome (PCS)?

PCS is a combination of disorders which occurs after TBI. Even a mild brain injury can cause PCS. Symptoms include cognitive and memory problems, emotional and behavioral changes, and physical symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, fatigue, and vision changes.

Do all head injuries cause brain injury?

To some degree, yes, all head injuries cause brain injury, but that does not mean that every bump on the head will cause long-term problems. In many cases, your brain will heal without ever presenting symptoms. On the other hand, brain injuries can occur with no apparent, or visible, head injury.
