BURG SIMPSON WILL PROTECT YOU AND YOUR RIGHTS
Whether you are riding for pleasure or commuting, you are entitled to protection from other drivers, to a safe lane of travel, to a reasonable passing or overtaking buffer, and to the same right-of-way protections as a motor vehicle.
Motorists are obligated to watch for bicycle riders, yield the right-of-way to riders just like other vehicles, and avoid “buzzing” riders when passing them. In fact, Colorado law requires all vehicles overtaking and passing bicycle riders to provide us with a three-foot (3’) passing buffer. Vehicles are not allowed to “buzz” or “brush back” bicycle riders.
Many scenarios that would constitute “fender benders” for motor vehicles can be dangerous or deadly for cyclists. A close pass (particularly at speed) can startle the rider or brush the rider, causing a crash. We have all been “hooked”, when a vehicle passes us and then turns right in front of us, or had a driver pull out in front of us when they would have waited for a motor vehicle, either causing a crash or requiring us to take extreme evasive action to avoid a crash. Clearing intersections becomes an exercise in steel nerves for many cyclists, as drivers behind us in the line become inpatient, pass us closely, honk or worse, or leave us no room once we are through the intersection. Riding in “the door zone” has its own set of risks. Drivers entering traffic without looking (typically pulling out from a parking space without checking their mirrors) is a common and dangerous hazard for cyclists.
Regardless of the specific mechanism, if you have been injured by the negligence of another, Burg Simpson can help.

Holding Negligent Parties Accountable
While riding on Colorado roadways, bicyclists expect to receive the same courtesy that most drivers give to each other. Unfortunately, it is not unusual to see in the news that many drivers are competing with cyclists for road space rather than simply sharing the lanes
“Many drivers believe they take precedence on the road, and that cyclists are invaders”, says Leon James, an author and University of Hawaii professor specializing in road rage psychology.
