At the age of twelve, Michael S. Burg had already made the decision to become a trial lawyer.
It was at that young age that he found the biography of Clarence Darrow in his parents’ book case. “My father was a liquor salesman…neither he nor my mother graduated from college.”
“I read the biography about Clarence Darrow, and I was awestruck. It was then that I decided I was going to be a trial lawyer.”
After more than 185 trials, 15 verdicts in excess of $1 million, and total settlements, judgments, and verdicts for his clients totaling in excess of $500 million, Mr. Burg’s firm comprises 58 attorneys and a support staff of nearly 80, with offices in four states.
Mr. Burg is the winner of the Clarence Darrow Award, presented to him in October of 2013, at the Ballagio Hotel in Las Vegas, in front of more than 500 leading trial lawyers.
The founder of Burg Simpson was admitted to the Colorado Bar in May 1976 and founded the firm later that year. “My father gave me a desk,” Michael said, “and always taught me to do my best. My father told me, ‘if you think it’s hard today, it will probably be harder tomorrow,’ and that you had to be prepared and ready to do the hard work to be successful,” said Michael.
Mr. Burg has won many additional awards, having made a difference in the lives of so many clients during the years in his career.
