Burg Simpson Files Class Action Lawsuit On Behalf Of Ohio Ambetter Policyholders
Burg Simpson has filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of Ohio consumers who purchased Ambetter insurance through the Ohio Health Insurance Exchange. Class action lawsuits allow consumers, whose individual claims may be too small to file an individual action, to join forces in one action to seek compensation against large corporate defendants.
Despite the requirements of the Affordable Care Act, many Ambetter policyholders are reporting they are unable to find, or are having difficulty finding, medical providers that will accept Ambetter insurance. Despite representations on Ambetter’s website that a large network of healthcare practitioners is available to provide quality care, many policyholders are learning this is not the case. Policyholders are also becoming frustrated when claims are denied by Ambetter because a healthcare provider listed as in-network on the healthcare directory is not, in fact, in- network.
Ambetter’s Silver and Gold level health insurance plans are offered through the Health Insurance Exchange by Buckeye Health Plan, a subsidiary of the insurance provider Centene Corporation. Centene reports that it is the nation’s largest insurer on the Health Insurance Exchange and it serves approximately 1.5 million Exchange members nationwide with its Ambetter product.
