Stephen J. Burg and David J. Crough Secure Win for Motorcycle Accident Victim
Burg Simpson shareholder Stephen J. Burg secured another huge victory for a client.
A Colorado jury returned one of the largest verdicts ever for this type of injury. $1.3 million verdict in Moon v. Gooden, a motorcycle accident case. The final award, however, will exceed $1.6 million once expenses and interest are included.
In August 2014, the plaintiff was riding his motorcycle, headed east, on Highlands Ranch Parkway in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. At the same time, the defendant, who was headed west, initiated a left turn right in front of the plaintiff’s motorcycle. As a result, the plaintiff’s motorcycle struck the passenger side of defendant’s vehicle.
The accident left the plaintiff with a broken nose, a separated shoulder, a non-displaced fracture of the tibia, and a non-displaced fracture of the patella. Consequently, the plaintiff had to have left shoulder and left knee scope surgeries. These injuries, and the resulting medical procedures.
The verdict far surpassed the defense’s best settlement offer of $265,000.
