Burg Simpson’s Diane Vaksdal Smith to Serve as Presiding Judge at Arapahoe County Regional Mock Trial Competition

Diane SmithDenver, CO – For the twentieth consecutive year, Burg Simpson shareholder Diane Vaksdal Smith will be volunteering her time for the Colorado High School Mock Trial Tournament. This year she will act as a presiding judge at the Arapahoe County Regional Mock Trial, which takes place February 26-27, 2016.

Each year more than 100 high school teams participate in Colorado’s mock trial program. Teams are composed of 6–12 students who perform a case for the Prosecution/Plaintiff and/or the Defense in either a civil or criminal-type trial.

Diane Vaksdal Smith, a former Magistrate Judge for Colorado’s Seventeenth Judicial District and a respected civil attorney, said, “I am thrilled to participate once again in the Colorado High School Mock Trial Tournament. Every year I am more impressed with the work and dedication of the students and their coaches. This competition provides students a wonderful opportunity to learn about the importance of our civil and criminal justice system. The benefits and rewards of this competition are many, as the students also develop their written and oral communication skills. I am honored to have been a part of the competition for the past twenty years.”

Ms. Smith joined Burg Simpson Eldredge Hersh & Jardine, P.C., in 1997. Diane Vaksdal Smith focuses her practice on employment issues, representing both employers and employees, in cases involving claims of wrongful discharge, wrongful termination and infringement on civil employment rights.
