August 23, 2018 (Denver, CO) – Burg Simpson Eldredge Hersh & Jardine, P.C., one of America’s foremost plaintiff trial firms, is pleased to announce that it is currently accepting applications for its 2018-2019 Scholarship Competition. Based upon written essays by graduating Colorado high school seniors, the competition aims to teach the next generation about the importance of the jury system as the guardian of American rights and liberties. Burg Simpson will award a total of 10 scholarships, with a first place prize of $2,500 and nine other scholarships of $1,000 each. Winners of the competition may use their scholarship to attend the college of their choice.
All graduating high school seniors from across Colorado are being asked to submit an original essay of 1,500 words or less that describes:
- how the civil jury system in the United States is being threatened;
- how the civil jury system protects your rights as a citizen; and
- the importance of preserving the civil jury system for future generations.
In addition to receiving a college scholarship, winning essayists will be invited to attend an awards reception, along with their families and their teachers, in celebration of their accomplishments. Winners will also be recognized and presented their scholarship checks at center court during half-time of the Colorado State Boys Basketball Championship Game on March 9, 2019.
“Since launching the Burg Simpson Scholarship Competition in 2012, we have been able to award $67,500 in college scholarships to 60 college-bound students. We consider it an honor to provide more Colorado seniors with the opportunity to obtain funds for college while educating them about the importance of the civil jury system,” Burg Simpson shareholder Steven Greenlee said.
The competition is open to any graduating Colorado senior enrolled in an accredited school. Students may submit an application and their essay to Burg Simpson no later than midnight on February 1, 2019.
