Colorado Drunk Driving Victims Attorney

Auto Accident - Personal Injury Burg SimpsonEvery day, almost 30 people in the United States die in motor vehicle crashes that involve an alcohol-impaired driver, according to the CDC. That is one drunk driving death every 51 minutes. Despite the passage of strict laws with harsh penalties for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, reckless people still get behind the wheel while impaired, injuring and killing thousands of innocent victims every year.

If you have been injured by an impaired driver in a motor vehicle accident—whether the driver is impaired by alcohol, drugs, prescription medications—you may be entitled to compensation for your injuries. Burg Simpson can help. See our Auto/Car Accident page for more details.

We often think of impaired drivers as those who drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Other factors such as prescription medications, fatigue, road rage, and even age can cause dangerous impairment.

When it comes to bringing claims against an impaired driver, you may also be entitled to an award of punitive damages at trial. Punitive damages serve as punishment for a person’s willful and wanton conduct—like driving while impaired. Burg Simpson is committed to holding intoxicated, high, and other impaired drivers responsible for the injuries, deaths, and destruction they leave behind. When handling auto/car accident claims for our clients, we typically seek to impose punitive damages on impaired drivers who cause our clients injury or death. There simply is no excuse for getting behind the wheel of a vehicle while impaired and persons who do so should be punished.

Sometimes employees of companies choose to drive impaired while on the job. For example, sometimes over-the-road truck drivers use illegal drugs and medications to keep them awake. If an employer knew or should have known that its employees posed a danger to the public because, for example, the employee has a history of drunk driving or tested positive on a prior drug test, that employer may be responsible for payment of compensation and a jury may also require the company to pay punitive damages.
