Postarthroscopic Glenohumeral Chondrolysis (PAGCL) is characterized by pain, stiffness, and limited range of motion, following shoulder arthroscopy. The symptoms are so painful and devastating that PAGCL is considered to be a life-altering condition.
View our Postsurgical Chondrolysis brochure for more information
PAGCL is the deterioration or complete loss of cartilage in the shoulder joint after arthroscopic surgery. The symptoms of PAGCL are often the same symptoms that the surgery was performed to eliminate, and can be far worse. Symptoms include:
- Shoulder pain, when the shoulder is at rest
- Shoulder pain, when the shoulder is in motion
- Stiffness of the shoulder
- Limited or reduced range of motion
- Weakness of the shoulder
- Clicking, popping, and/or grinding
If you experience any of these symptoms following shoulder arthroscopy, especially if a pain pump was used, talk to your doctor right away. An x-ray of a shoulder with PAGCL will show narrowing of the joint space.
