Colorado's minimum wage law can be found in Title 8 of the Colorado Revised Statutes, and Minimum Wage Order Number 22. The wage order generally requires that all employees in covered occupations be paid time-and-a-half for any work over 40 hours in a workweek, for any work over 12 hours in a day, or for 12 consecutive hours without regard to the start or end of the workday.
Colorado's minimum wage law is generally applicable to all employees employed in the following categories of work: retail and service, commercial support service, food and beverage, and health and dental. However, Minimum Wage Order Number 22 provides that the following employees or occupations are exempt from all provisions of the Order:
- Executive or Supervisory employees
- Administrative employees
- Professional employees
- Outside sales employees
- Elected officials and members of their staffs
- Domestic employees, including babysitters
- Property managers
- Interstate drivers
- Certain motor carrier workers
- Cab drivers
- Volunteers
- Students in a work study program
In addition, certain groups of employees are exempt from the overtime provisions of the minimum wage law.
