Jennifer L. Thompson |
Jennifer L. Thompson received her Juris Doctorate in 2004 from the University at Buffalo School of Law. She was a semi-finalist at the National Civil Trial Competition held in Los Angeles, California in November, 2003 and participated in Moot Court and Trial Team during law school. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Rochester Institute of Technology and graduated summa cum laude in 2001. Jennifer is admitted to practice law in Maryland, Minnesota, the District of Columbia, California, Colorado, and in Federal District Courts of Colorado and the Northern District of California.
Jennifer has a unique and varied medical background. In addition to her undergraduate education, Jennifer also completed the rigorous didactic and clinical education program for New York State's highest level of prehospital care providers, and became a paramedic in 1995. She worked as a full-time Paramedic for six years in the City of Rochester, New York, during which time she treated thousands of patients in need of emergent medical and surgical intervention in the prehospital setting. Jennifer also spent two years as a Tissue Procurement Specialist and Procurement Team Leader for the Rochester Eye and Human Parts Bank, where she performed sterile surgical tissue procurement procedures on tissue donors to recover transplantable joints and tissues for recipients across the country. During her undergraduate education, Jennifer also worked in the operating room as an anesthesia technician and scrub-assist technician. Jennifer is presently refreshing her New York State Paramedic Certification, which she expects to complete in the Summer of 2009, and plans to seek reciprocity for admission to practice in Colorado's Prehospital Emergency Medical System at that time.
Jennifer's background and specialized medical training makes her uniquely well-suited to medical negligence litigation, and it is in this area that concentrates her practice. In 2007, the medical negligence practice group at Burg Simpson settled cases totaling more than ten million dollars. Prior to joining Burg Simpson, she worked on the tragic "Good Friday Fuel Convoy Massacre" case, Fisher v. Halliburton, and has assisted in the preparation and presentation of information regarding this litigation to Congressman Waxman and his staff in Washington, D.C. in 2006 for the purpose of educating his office about the need for a formal Congressional inquiry. Previously, Jennifer has also worked on pharmaceutical litigations including Hormone Replacement Therapy, Zyprexa, Vioxx, and Zicam, and was appointed as the National Coordinator for Discovery in the Hormone Therapy Litigation, MDL-1507. In that capacity she oversaw and coordinated discovery efforts for over 1700 hormone therapy cases.
Ms. Thompson serves on the Board of Directors for Zuma's Rescue Ranch, a Colorado non-profit corporation that pairs horses that are slaughter-bound with children who have been abused, abandoned or neglected. With the help of the horses and Equine Psychotherapists the troubled youth journey to trusting and loving again. Zuma's Rescue Ranch also provides training and therapy to the families of the children in the program and educates owners in breeding techniques to keep the horse population more controlled.
